New Reviews & Search Bar

Sahara Race diet: savoury mince with beef
+ New gear reviews up! Check out the amazing sleeping bag I took on the race, and more.
+ Looking to enter the 250km Sahara Race in tip-top condition? Check out the new pre-race tips under the main Race Resources page. Rules pretty much apply for other desert races and multi-stage ultramarathons.
+ Introduced a new site search function - the easier to sift through all the Sahara Race info on this site! The search function is also accessible from the navigation menu on the left.
+ For those curious about the kind of food one survives on while on a 7-day, 250km desert race, the Race Resources > Food & Nutrition section has been updated with three new reviews. Specifically, we're going to look at the following freeze dried food:
This should hopefully help not only those preparing for a future edition of the Sahara Race/other desert race but also those going camping/trekking/mountaineering, etc.

A 250km Foot Race in Sand?
My name is Jane and in the early 2010, I was a running newbie.
To be very precise, it was hard back in February 2010 for me to finish even a 5km run.
In October that same year, I completed a 7-day 250km (155 miles) Sahara Race. It's a self-supported race in which runners are required to carry their food, sleeping bag, medical supplies, etc as we tackle sand dunes and desert valleys in glorious 48°C (118°F) heat.
It was an epic adventure, to say the least.
This site deals with the "why"s and "how"s of my Sahara Race, and really just to answer the question of how a running newbie went from 5km to 250km in just over 6 months.
Whether you are an aspiring desert runner, or just a casual visitor who has a passing interest in how this improbably adventure came to be, I hope you enjoy.

Namibian Safari
Well, after the Nile cycling expedition and the 250km Sahara Race, I just can't seem to stay away from the African continent and the sand in general.
Went to Namibia for a safari and a desert rumble in September. Here're the photos from the red desert of Sossusvlei. What a stunning country. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

There's life beyond the Sahara Race! Have decided to take some space to chronicle the other journeys around the world. Antarctica, Asia, Europe, Africa, and World Nomads/National Geographic portfolios are on the new page, Beyond the Sand.
